The system is controlled by a PC using software written in Visual Basic. It offers visually oriented menus that allow easy coil configuration and test set up procedures. The following hardware modules are included in the system:

486 Computer, 3.5" Floppy Drive
Hewlett Packard 34401 Multi-meter
Switching matrix for multiple coil testing
20 Watt Power Amplifier
Harris 9250 Resistance Meter
Associated Research 6550 DT
Dielectric Analyzer

In order to help assure reliable operation, the system is housed in a 50" rack mount cabinet that provides filtered air ventilation. The main power switch is located at the lower rear of the cabinet.

Access to individual instruments is made through front and rear doors. Two sets of test jacks (Test Fixture 1 and 2) are located on the left side of the cabinet. Each set of connections consists of 12 banana jacks: 4 wire resistance leads for 2 coils and 2 each for frame (Spud) and Ground. Connections for the test fixture Start Modules are also located here. Cables for an external PC monitor and keyboard are led through a port on the rear door panel.
